KISSMETONIGHT-1

Title: Kiss Me Tonight
Series: Kiss Me #2
Author: Emma Hart
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Release Date: September 24, 2019

In hindsight, I never should have opened that text message. The last thing I needed first thing on a Monday was a picture of some stranger’s, um, eggplant, in my inbox.
I also should have replaced the batteries in my fire alarm, because my Friday night did not need to end with my apartment building going up in flames.
But it’s fine. It’s fine. Everything is fine.
I’m only lying in a hospital bed with more split ends than I’ve ever had, almost all my Earthly possessions have turned to ash, and apparently, they don’t serve wine to patients in this place.
But like I said, it’s fine.
Until he walks in.
The guy who saved my life. My hero. Noah Jacobs.
And the universe is amusing itself at my expense, because the dirty photo I woke up to on Monday?
It’s his.

This is the third book that I have read by this author and I have found that Emma Hart always writes books that make me feel good, make me laugh, and make me swoon.

Emma Hart always writes characters that are easy to connect with and easy to love and this book is no different. I loved Reagan's straightforward and feisty attitude. I fell in love with her instantly. And Noah is one hunk that is hard not to swoon over.

The plot of this story felt a little flimsy and unrealistic to me. That's not to say that I didn't enjoy the story as a whole because I did, but I still would have liked something more probable. The odds of this happening are so slim that it is almost laughable.

Even though I found the circumstances regarding their meeting highly unlikely, I did like that the romance blossomed from their shared bonding through texts. They are sarcastic and funny with each other and their genuine personalities blossom through to each other. You could really feel the connection that they had early on.

Overall, this is a fun story that you will consume effortlessly. It is filled with humor, swoon-worthy moments, and will genuinely make you smile. I couldn't have found a better way to spend my evening than with this book. I am jazzed for the third book in this series. I am addicted to this author. Emma Hart, keep 'em coming!

“Hi.”

I glanced over at him, my lips curving. “Hi.”

“You ready?”

“To escape the madhouse? What do you think?”

“That I should put my foot down.”

I winked and clicked my belt into place. “Let’s go. Where are we going?”

Noah pulled away from the curb. “I was going to let you direct me. I haven’t been in town long, like I said, and I definitely haven’t been out for lunch.”

I leaned back in the seat. “Hmm. What do you want to eat?”

“You’re the one breaking out of jail. I’m happy to go wherever you want to.”

“Oh, no. I hate making decisions like this. Do you know how difficult it is to pick somewhere to eat?” I shifted my whole body so I could look at him. “Do you want Chinese? Thai? Steak? Korean? Pizza? Burgers? Caribbean? Mexican? Spanish? French? Italian?”

Noah’s gaze darted my way. “Do you have all those places in Creek Falls?”

“No, but that doesn’t make the decision any easier,” I replied. “Well? Burgers? Pizza? Mexican? Italian? Steak? Or Chinese?”

“I don’t—shit me, I feel like I’m being interrogated by the fucking Government.”

“You may as well be. Pick somewhere and I’ll tell you where to go.”

“I said you can pick.”

“I don’t care. I’ve been everywhere. They’re all good. You’re the new boy in town. Pick somewhere.”

“You’re demanding, do you know that?”

“Yes, Preston—oh, he’s my brother—regularly points out how demanding and difficult I am.” I paused. “If you really want me to pick, I will, but you can’t complain after.”

He turned the blinker on so we’d head in the direction of Main Street. “You just said they’re all good.”

“They are, but it’s not my fault if you feel like pizza and end up with a taco.”

“I can honestly say that I do not care what I eat for lunch as long as it’s edible.”

“Right. Then turn left, then right, and pull into the parking lot next to the liquor store.”

“I see you’re taking us to a reputable location.”

“Oh, no. The liquor store is a pit stop. It just happens to be on the way to the Mexican place I like.”

“I see. So you’re using me for liquor.”

“You’ve met my great-aunt. Damn straight I’m using you for liquor.”

Emma Hart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over thirty novels and has been translated into several different languages.

She is a mother, wife, lover of wine, Pink Goddess, and valiant rescuer of wild baby hedgehogs.

Emma prides herself on her realistic, snarky smut, with comebacks that would make a PMS-ing teenage girl proud.

Yes, really. She's that sarcastic.

There are hardly words to describe the array of emotions this book has evoked inside me. This is such a heartwarming story that will leave you hearing tiny violins.

I think that what I love most about this book is the way that it effortlessly combines emotions. You will be feeling so much when you read this at all of the appropriate times. The blending of emotions is fantastic.

I also loved the depth of the characters. Alma is a kind-hearted and quirky girl with a heart that just keeps on giving. She was a breath of fresh air. Rumor was a character that was easy to empathize with. I hadn't experienced what he had but I could feel every bit of it right along with him. I love when an author writes a character that I can step into the shoes of and live their life. The secondary characters were a delight. You can tell that these characters come from a special place in the author's heart.

Overall, this is a book that I was greatly impressed with and I am so grateful to have taken a chance on. It is moving in all the best ways and the story will seep into your soul and refuse to let you be. This is a book that will stay on your mind long after you've finished it. I can't wait for another book from this author.

PROLOGUE

Mama’s eyes are golden when she cries. Not like mine, which are a murky shade of dirty pool water—not fully green or brown, but a mixture of the two. Though when I was just shy of ten years old and saying goodbye to my sister, Mama told me that my glassy gaze was speckled with emeralds just like Daddy’s.

But Daddy wasn’t at Lo’s funeral. Not when the pastor spoke the eulogy to the half-empty church, or
when the slow toll of cars paced the streets to the cemetery, or even when they lowered the kid-sized white coffin into the ground. Mama and I watched every step of the way. Her eyes trained on the half of her heart sinking into the dark soil, never to be seen again, while mine stared off into the distance waiting for Daddy’s familiar face to appear.

Looking back now, Lo had suspected the end of our parent’s marriage long before Daddy packed his things and left. She always knew it’d end that way.

I wondered what else she knew.

Mama wipes a stray tear from her eye, hoping I won’t notice how they glisten in the fluorescent lighting of the drab white room. I want to tell her I’m all right, that everything will be fine. But the weak attempts of comfort would roll off her tense shoulders in disbelief.

When Lo was diagnosed with lupus it was too late to save her. The disease had eaten away at every piece of her—body, skin, and organs. Nobody knew what would happen if it’d gone untreated for too long. No matter how hard Mama tried controlling the disease, it couldn’t be fought.

Logan died in her sleep.

“There’s an open booth over there,” Starla said, moving toward the back left of the bar.
I followed close behind, the thought of my soon-to-be-ordered wings making my stomach growl.
I was thinking how good a large draft beer would go with said wings, when I looked to the right and saw two gorgeous guys. They had matching grins and dark hair, and were laughing up at the woman who was delivering their food.
One looked very familiar…
Wes.
My stomach clenched as his gaze shifted and landed on me, and my breath held as I waited for his acknowledgement. When he turned back to the server instead, without so much as a glimmer of recognition, my heart fell.
I was right… he hated me.

I cannot believe that I have never picked up a Bec McMaster book before now! I have seen her books around but I hadn't realized that she had so many. I've been missing out and I am going to have the best time going through her backlist of titles.

I love stories about fae and this one did not disappoint. I admit that the story did have some similarities to A Court of Thorns and Roses. This is also a retelling of sorts of the Hades and Persephone myth. I had read that initially in the blurb but forgot by the time I actually picked the book up to read it. It isn't hard to see the retelling through the pages, though not every aspect of the myth is present in this story. The only thing that I didn't care for in the plotting of the story was that most of it was too predictable. I like being surprised when I read a book rather than being able to suppose the outcomes. The world-building is enjoyable. There is a lot of detail regarding the fae folklore.

I really liked Vi's character. She stood on her own and made her own choices and decisions. She was loyal to her mother but when things didn't start adding up to what her mother had told her she started to think for herself. I liked that she didn't blindly follow. Thiago was so kind, patient, and a great ruler. He was very deep. I liked their slow-burn romance. I liked how they were standoffish with each other at first. It was understandable, really. Their banter was great and I couldn't get enough of these two.

Overall, this story is so captivating. This is a magical start to a series that I can't wait to devour. If you love stories with fae then you should give this book a shot. I can't wait for more!

I'm a writer. Dreamer. Travel Addict. And enthusiastic-if-not-perfect baker. I'll honestly admit that I don't always follow the recipe, be it cooking, or writing romances. If I'm not sitting in front of the computer, I'm probably plotting my next world trip. Or eating chocolate. Sometimes I run. Because...chocolate. I grew up on a steady diet of 80's fantasy movies like Ladyhawke, Labyrinth and The Princess Bride, and love creating epic, fantasy-based worlds with heroes and heroines who must defeat all the odds to have their HEA. I live in a country town in Australia, with my very own beta hero, Byron; Kobe, a dog who will eat anything (even used teabags); and demanding chickens, Siggy and Lagertha.
