New Release: Bet the Farm by Staci Hart

Bet the Farm is LIVE and available from your favorite online book retailer! This heartfelt, flirty story of opposites attract from Staci Hart is just what you need. Happy reading!

Amazon | AppleBooks | Kobo | B&N | Goodreads

Olivia Brent has one summer to save the dairy farm she just inherited.

But there’s one problem, and it’s not her lactose intolerance.

Jake Milovic.

The brooding farmhand has inherited exactly fifty percent of Brent Farm, and he’s so convinced the city girl can’t work the land, he bets she can’t save it in a summer.

Determined to prove him wrong, Olivia accepts what might be the dumbest wager of her life.

His strategy to win seems simple: follow her around, shirtlessly distracting her between bouts of relentless tauntin g. And it’s effective — if his dark eyes and rare smiles aren’t enough to sidetrack her, the sweaty, rolling topography of the manbeast’s body would do the trick.

What they don’t know: they’ll ha ve to weather more than each other.

Mysterious circumstances throw the farm into disarray, and with the dairy farm in danger, Olivia and Jake have to work together. But when they do, ther e’s more to fear than either of them imagined.

Because now their hearts are on the line, and the farm won’t be the only casualty if they fail.

Staci has been a lot of things up to this point in her life -- a graphic designer, an entrepreneur, a seamstress, a clothing and handbag designer, a waitress. Can't forget that. She's als o been a mom, with three little girls who are sure to grow up to break a number of hearts. She's been a wife, though she's certainly not the cleanest, or the best cook. She's also super, duper fun at a party, especially if she's been drinking whiskey. When she's not writing, she's reading, sleeping, gaming, or designing graphics.

“Fuck, Kovacs.” His gritty voice dragged over my body, yanking me out of the last bit of oblivion. My eyes opened with a start, my spine knocking against the tub as a man crawled over me.

 Feral.

Ruthless.

 Savage.

His severe energy punched my chest with a gasp. As if I had been asleep for weeks, the hit of adrenaline burst through my veins, everything in me screaming with both life and death. Peace and violence. Lust and abhorrence. Calm and terror.

His long, dark lashes lifted to mine, pinning me in place, his face only inches from mine. The weight of his physique, his skin touching mine, his wet clothes rubbing against my mostly naked figure was so real.

“Getting into fights again, Kovacs?” he rumbled, his thumb passing over my cheek, his lids flinching as if he experienced the pain I should have felt from his touch. But there was only warmth. Fear blocked out everything other than my pounding heart. How was this possible? Was he actually here? Was I dreaming?

“Can’t leave you alone for a moment.” He smirked, his lids narrowing on me. “Even got Killian wrapped around your finger.” His hand trailed between my breasts, over my stomach, gliding over my underwear, tracing over my folds. I inhaled sharply, my hips reacting without thought, seeking the unbelievable pleasure from his simple touch. “I told you. Your life is mine. I own you…and I own this.” He rubbed harder, my lids fluttering, my mouth gasping.

“Fuck you. You betrayed me.” Anger and desire choked my throat, my voice low and tight. “And I told you. No one owns me.”

“Really?” He snorted. “Look around you, Kovacs. You are someone’s pet. Soon you will have a shiny collar to match.”

I snarled, but my body behaved in opposition to my hate, tilting into his touch.

“Time to stop playing house, Kovacs.” He grunted into my ear, pressing his erection into me, his mouth grazing my neck. “Be ready… It’s all about to go to hell…in three, two, one…” Booooooom!

MY REVIEW

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

OMG, you guys! I thought that I was ready for this book, but I wasn't. I have been anticipating this book since Savage Lands released and I thought that I was prepared for Stacey Marie Brown's ingenious mindbending plots but I was so wrong. She slayed me with this book. This book will scorch your psyche. When you start this book you will be pulled so far down the rabbit hole that you won't ever want to climb back out again.

In all honesty, there isn't much that I can say in my review that wouldn't be spoilery. But if you are familiar with Brown's writing, then you will be on cloud nine with this book because she delivers the heart-stopping, twisty-turvy plot that you have come to expect from her. And these characters...gah! The way that Brown crafts her characters is nothing short of inspiring and downright genius. The dynamic that she creates with her characters draws the reader in so that the characters consume your every thought. The characters become more than just names on the page. They become your friends, your enemies, your lovers. You aren't just a bystander anymore when you pick up a book by Stacey Marie Brown. The characters become a part of you and you feel everything right along with them. Brown writes her characters so intimately that it is hard to separate your mind from them when you are finished reading. But that is the amazing thing about reading one of her books. The characters stay with you long after you close the book. I really loved all the new characters that are introduced in Wild Lands and I am really excited to see where things go with them.

Again, discussing the character development in this book would be pretty spoilery so I'll just stick with a general observation about Brexley. She definitely had a great character arc in Wild Lands. She is certainly not the same girl in Wild Lands as the girl that went into Halalhaz in Savage Lands. Her experiences in Halalhaz and in the Savage Lands have changed her and, dare I say, awakened her in some ways. She sees things from new perspectives after her experiences and it not only changes her mentality on current events in her world but it changes her very place in that world. Her journey in this book is very inspiring when she finally admits to herself that she won't live by someone else's whims nor will she be controlled by someone else. No matter who it is. There is a lot of self-discovery for her in this book that I can only expect will be even more amazing in the next book.

In short, this book was everything that I expected and more. I am totally blown away each and every time I pick up a book from Stacey Marie Brown. She is my unicorn author. Her ideas are so clever and stimulating and she weaves her stories with a magic that is untouchable. She is a literal goddess with the written word. There is just no one that crafts stories like she can. I am just such a fangirl for this author. Her stories seep into my marrow. They challenge me, warm my heart, make my heart want to break out of my chest, just a gamut of emotions every time I read one of her books. If you enjoyed Savage Lands then you will be over the moon with this book. So many of your questions from book one get answered but you will have just as many new questions upon finishing this book. And you won't even be mad about it because the ride that Stacey takes you on in this book will knock your socks off. If you have not dived into this world yet then you are missing out on an opus of epic proportions. If you are a newbie then I suggest starting with Brown's Darkness series. The Savage Lands series stands on its own and can certainly be read independently but it is set in the same world as her Darkness series, Collector series, and Lightness Saga, and reading them first really compliments and enhances the reading experience of the Savage Lands series. This world that she has created is truly a work of art.

This book is a sequel that I have been looking forward to since last year. What are some sequels that you have your eye on?

Almost twenty years after the barrier between Earth and the Otherworld fell in the Fae Wars, Budapest is balancing on the precipice. A battle for dominance is brewing between the elite fae and the privileged humans in Eastern Europe. The prejudice between the sides is bubbling with hate and violence.
Nineteen-year-old human, Brexley, has grown up in privilege, but not without heartbreak. After being orphaned, she is taken in by General Markos, living in a walled city rife with power grabs and ruthless political games. Then one night the course of her life changes, and Brexley is thrown into the most feared prison in the east. Halalhaz, the House of Death—where you go in but don’t come out.
She must learn to live with the worst of fae and human criminals. The rule of hierarchy puts humans on the bottom, where the only way to survive each day is to make alliances with the fae.
Here she meets the sexy, vicious legend, Warwick Farkas. A myth among man and fae. He is as brutal, cruel, arrogant, and as lethal as the lore says he is, ruling the prison with unchallenged authority. Brexley can’t deny an intense draw to him, one that might cost her life.
If The Games don’t take her out first—
A fight to the death where only one survives.

MY REVIEW

I was beyond thrilled to dive back into the incredible world that Stacey Marie Brown started with her Darkness series, Collector series, and her Lightness Saga. I have scarcely felt such a deep connection to a fictional world like I do with this one, and I knew that this new series was going to strengthen that tenfold.

The awesome thing about this series is that although it is set in the same world as three of her other series, it also stands completely on its own. This series takes place twenty years after the events that ended in the Lightness Saga. While most of her other series in this world take place in the Seattle area, this series takes place in Budapest. I can't begin to express how riveting it was to experience this world from a different perspective in a totally new locale. The world-building in this series is phenomenal. Brown uses rich descriptions and carefully placed information to totally immerse the reader in the world. Reading this book is like being thrust into the pages of the story where you experience everything along with the main characters like you are living it right along with them.

I was so very impressed with the characters in this book. It can sometimes be hard to open yourself up to new characters in new worlds, but these characters grab your attention from the very start. Brown writes these characters so fluidly and expertly that they take a little piece of your heart as you read their stories. It's no small thing for an author to write characters that are so multifaceted. Not only will you love these characters because they are so easy to connect with but because they are so realistic. They have flaws, struggles, and strengths that make them come alive and jump right off the page.

I have such a deep appreciation for Brown's storytelling. She uses all the tools at her disposal and crafts superior stories that you will latch on to and devour with reckless abandon. She dazzles her readers with complex characters, clever and interesting plots and ideas, and atmospheric world-building. This book is another slam dunk that she can add to her repertoire that boasts kick-ass heroines, brooding alpha males, and side characters that you would die for. This book gave me such an intense book hangover and I cannot wait for the rest of this series to be released. If you are new to Stacey Marie Brown's books then I suggest starting with this book or pick up the first book in her Darkness series. The book dragon inside you will thank you later.

2020 Can Suck A Lemon

Howdy folks! Long time no see, amiright? I haven't posted on the blog since last summer. I am sure that I don't need to tell everyone what a shitshow 2020 was for literally everyone on the planet. My 2020 was no different from most other people so I will spare you all most of the sordid details. I was very sick for most of 2020 and neglected almost everything in the online world. I was thankfully still able to read last year but I couldn't do much else. I am currently going back through over 23,000 emails that have accumulated in my inbox since last summer. I hope to catch up on everything and bring the blog back to what it was before I got sick. I don't want to draw this post out, but I did want to post something to explain my long absence and let you all know that I will be getting things back on track with the blog in the coming weeks. I have already started sharing bookish news on my Facebook page and my Instagram if you want to follow me there. I'll start posting more reviews and bookish news on the blog soon. Until then, I send you all my warmest regards and I hope that you are all safe and happy with a book in your hand. Cheers!
