Book Blitz, Excerpt & Giveaway: Savage Beginnings (The Moretti Crime Family #1) by C. Hallman & J.L. Beck

Savage Beginnings
C. Hallman & J.L. Beck
(The Moretti Crime Family #1)
Publication date: July 31, 2020
Genres: Adult, Dark Romance, Romance

It started with a single look… my obsession, my desire, and need to possess the sweet, and incredibly naive Elena Romero.
Dark raven hair, and piercing green eyes. She would make a beautiful bride.
Ten-millions dollars and a forced signature later and she was mine.
Like a thief I came in the dead of night and stole her away from her protected castle and placed her in a gilded cage made of gold.
The deal had been settled.
She would become my wife.

She would bear my children.

She would bend to my will.

But most importantly she would help me destroy the man she loved most. The man who took everything from me: her father.
*This is a dark mafia romance that contains mature themes, graphic violence, and sexual content. This is a complete standalone that ends with a happily ever after. 100,000+ words long. There is NO cheating either.**
EXCERPT:
I’m so nervous for the rest of the day, I can’t even concentrate on math. I can’t shake the feeling that Marie is in danger and that it’s my fault.
When Julian finally comes to get me for dinner, I’m on pins and needles. As soon as he walks in, I bombard him with questions.
“Is she okay? Marie, I mean. You didn’t do anything to her, right?”
“Why would you ask me that? I told her it was fine to come in.”
“I thought…”
“You thought I killed her?” He arches a brow in questioning.
I feel ashamed to admit it, but nod since there isn’t any point in lying to him. Julian is cruel, sinister, and I know he wouldn’t hesitate to kill someone. Man or woman.
“I didn’t kill her… but your concern for her well-being is interesting.”
Interesting?”
“Maybe that’s not the right word. Convenient would be better.”
“What that’s supposed to mean?” I’m almost afraid to find out.
“At the event I’m taking you to, I need you to behave. I need you to act a certain way and do things you might not want to do, but you will do them because if you don’t, Marie might get hurt.” The words slowly enter my mind, and I piece the puzzle together.
“You’re using her against me,” I growl angrily.
“Yes, but I will not harm her if you behave, and I will reward you. I will give you more freedom. All you have to do is prove yourself to me.”
“Prove myself? What does that even mean?” I toss my hands into the air. “I’ve never done anything for you not to trust me. I’ve played all your games, never fought you on anything. I let you keep me in your bedroom without complaining. I think I’ve proven myself enough… maybe you are the one who needs to prove himself to me.”
As soon as the last bit leaves my mouth, I regret saying it. Not because it’s not true, but because I don’t want to provoke Julian.

All I wanted was a fresh start in a new city...and a bartending job. I never intended to fall for the sexy, tattooed bar owner.

Dark.

Brooding.

Emotionally unavailable.

He’s afraid that if I dig too deep, I won’t like what I find. But he’s wrong, and I’m determined to prove it.

KILLIAN

Love can destroy a man. Bring him to his knees. That’s why I never let anyone get too close.

One more chance to get it right.

I would show her that I’ve changed. I’m not hell-bent on self-destruction anymore. I won’t be careless with her. Not again.

This time everything will be different.

But once again my past catches up to me, and I’ll have to prove that I’m stronger than my addiction. Stronger than my secrets and lies. Strong enough to be the man she deserves.

No more secrets. No more lies.

They say that truth is beauty … they’re lying.

On a quest to outrun her past, she turns to illegal street racing. She loves the rush, the hint of danger, and living just on the edge of losing control. The last thing she needs is a detective tailing her, no matter how hot he is or how much she’s tempted to kiss him. Again.

When Deacon Ramsey runs into Keira at a street race, he knows he should stay away. She’s reckless. Dangerous. A perfect storm. He can’t afford to blow his cover. And he’s not convinced that the daughter of a ruthless criminal can be trusted. But when Keira’s past catches up to her, Deacon just might be the only one who can save her.

Beneath Your Beautiful

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

This was such an incredible debut! After reading last year's Wilder Love and this year's Sweet Chaos and falling head over heels in love with both stories I knew that I had to pick up this author's backlist titles.

I am so in love with this author's writing style. It really speaks to me. I feel so at home in this author's prose. The narration was smooth and inviting. There were a few points in the middle of the story where the flow really slowed down. I wouldn't say that I was completely bored but I definitely felt the change in the story's pacing. I enjoyed the overall plot of the story. It was engaging and interesting. I felt that some of the conflict was glossed over at the end though. I really loved how the author was able to pull me into the story from the first page. I felt an instant connection with the story.

Both main characters in this story were complex and realistic. It was so easy to fall right into their orbits. Eden was my favorite kind of heroine. She was strong and sweet and always a ray of sunshine. When the story starts out her world is turned on its axis and she leaves home to find herself. Then her path crosses with Killian's. He is a broody and a little closed off. He fits the tortured hero definition to a T. I really liked that both characters had a lot of depth. The reader can really feel the character growth for each of them as the story progresses. Especially for Killian. I felt that there was a missed opportunity with Eden's character growth, at least in a certain area. Her closure in this area felt a little too neat. It had build-up but then kind of petered out. I really loved the friendships in this book. And Eden's family was wonderful. The secondary characters in this book were just great.

Killian and Eden were so perfect together. I absolutely loved Killian's protectiveness towards Eden, even when they first met. While they both had a lot going on in the background, they were able to open up to each other. I loved that Eden was able to bring out the best in Killian. They definitely had chemistry with one another and all their friends could see it from a mile away.

Overall, this was a compelling story with a wonderful cast of characters. This is a story that will keep you on your toes. I can't wait to read Connor and Ava's story in the next book in this series!

Beautiful Lies

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

This book really surprised me in all the best ways. Connor and Ava's love story really captured my heart.

What I really loved about this book was how I fell into the characters' lives so easily. Connor and Ava were characters that I connected with immediately. They were complex characters with backstory that made everything emotional and interesting. They were so relatable and likable. It was so easy to get emotionally invested in these characters. I also really love the secondary characters in this series.

The author really drew me into the story. I really loved the flashbacks to the past that let the reader get a deeper look into the characters. The entire story was compelling and kept my interest. The emotional connection that the author creates with this story is incredible. I felt so invested in these characters and their story. The writing style is just beautiful. The flow of the story is perfect and the narration is smooth and welcoming.

The romance in this book was like fire. Connor and Ava had such a deep connection that it was a palpable thing. Their sexual chemistry was off the charts and simply scorching. You could feel the love between these two.

Overall, this was an emotionally charged story that captured my heart. I fell so in love with these characters and their story is so memorable. This book will pull on your heartstrings as you watch Connor and Ava find their way back to each other. This was such a great second chance romance and I absolutely recommend it!

REVIEW

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

OH. MY. GOD. This book completely tipped me off my axis. I am so smitten with this book right now, ya'll. I am 100% here for this and you should be too.

It's no wonder why this author's books are so amazing because her storytelling is unparalleled. I first read The Good Girl's Guide to Being Bad by this author and I remember fondly that I fell totally in love with the storytelling from the get-go. Her writing voice is brilliant and she has a unique way of touching readers through the story. The narration is smooth but never dull. The connection that she makes with the reader through her words is impressive.

These characters...what can I say? They were glorious. And I am not only talking about the main characters, Honor and Archer. The entire cast of characters is amazing. I was so drawn into this story because of this stellar cast of characters. I am truly waiting with bated breath for more books in this series to release. These characters left such an impression on me. I loved the incredible representation of both family and friendship in this story. It warmed my heart so much. As for the main characters, both Honor and Archer were well-developed characters and they both had such immense growth in the story. I felt very connected to them. I also felt that they were portrayed very realistically which only made the story seem more authentic.

The romance of this story really had my heart thumping in my chest. From the embarrassing and hilarious meet-cute to the very end of the book, this couple had me invested in their love story. Honor and Archer had immediate and electric chemistry. What's more, is that they had a wonderful friendship. I was rooting for this couple from the first scene.

I really loved the plot of this story and I think that the author did a fine job of setting everything up in the story. The premise is totally riveting - a case of mistaken identity in the most humorous meet-cute leading to true love. The entire story was magical. I read this book in a single sitting because I legit couldn't put the book down.

Overall, this is another home run story from Cookie O'Gorman! I am so in love with her writing and it can only get better from here. If you liked her YA books then this NA story will blow you away. This book is a new favorite for me! I can't wait for the next book!

EXCERPT

A sudden feeling drew my attention to the other side of the room. I couldn’t really explain it. It was hot like electricity, something magnetic. My eyes searched for the source of that strange pull—and clashed with gray.
My breath caught.
It was like looking into the heart of a storm, intense, powerful. I hadn’t gone up in flames for any of the others, but this guy… Well, this O’Brien who was staring at me—devouring me—with those unusual gray eyes, wearing a frown like he never smiled, a stare so focused I thought he might be memorizing every move I made? Or reading my mind?
“Wow,” I said, voice nothing but a shaky exhale.
This guy caused a slow burn inside me. I wanted to run. Either to him or away, I wasn’t sure. But as his eyes traveled the length of my body, all the way down to my shoes, and back up again to meet my gaze, everything inside me turned to wildfire. I licked my lips, thighs clenching together instinctively.
His frown deepened, jaw tight.
And that made him seem even sexier.

Book Blitz: Beautifully Broken by Bailey B.

Beautifully Broken
by Bailey B.
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Release Date: December 20, 2019

Piper

Most people don’t think about the day they’ll die. They coast through life, blissfully unaware of how their time is ticking away. I wasn’t like most people. I welcomed death, wanted her to take me away from the prison I called life, but she refused. I tried twice only to survive. And then, when I thought I had nothing left it came.

A reason to live.

Rex was a small, unexpected ray of light my world of darkness that blossomed into a beam of sunshine. I thought, maybe this was why Death didn’t take me. Maybe she knew that if I held on a little longer things would turn around. But the third time Death came to my door wasn’t by choice. Someone else brought her, and I fear this time she might take me.

Rex

Being the son of a country star sucks. My parents are never around, I move every year or so, and I have no real friends. Everyone around me has an agenda. Everyone except Piper Lovelace. I can’t get that girl to notice me. Trust me I’ve tried.

Thankfully, fate stepped in and gave me the break I needed. I’ve got her attention, now I need her to give me a chance.

Teasers:

1. Our gazes dance together for what feels like an eternity. My heart beats against my ribcage with Hulk-like intensity. It wants her. It wasn’t to hold this beautifully broken girl and show her that she’s worthy of love.
Not that I love her, but I like her.
A lot.
Finally, Piper says, “Let’s go inside. I’m giving you a chance. Don’t make me regret it.”I'll send payment shorty.

2.     Everything about Rex is too good to be true. Sooner or later, the hat will drop and the way he’s got me feeling, I’m not gonna land on my feet. “If you keep hanging out with me, Rex, people are gonna start talking.”
He shrugs, slipping his hand in mine. He brings my palm to his lips and plants a featherlight kiss on my knuckles. “They already are. I don’t care what anyone thinks, Piper. I like you.”
“You shouldn’t.” The words taste like crow because I want Rex to like me. Goodness, I want him to like me. “Whatever this is between us, it will only end in heartbreak.”

Book Blitz, Excerpt & Giveaway: The Fractured Empire (World Apart #1) by Robin D. Mahle

Title: The Fractured Empire
Series: World Apart #1
Author: Robin D. Mahle
Publication date: October 19, 2018
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult

Clark and Adelaide think their lives can’t get any worse. Until they meet each other.
Adelaide — heiress to the wealthiest man in the Ceithren Empire — has felt a void since her sister’s death. Just as she’s resigned herself to the empty life her father chose for her, a relic from a world that shouldn’t exist plunges her into chaos.
Clark — son of the greatest terrorist the empire has ever known — is still reeling from his father’s death. Since then, his life has boiled down to two things: his brothers and his next mission. When his mission to bring back a mystical artifact goes awry, he’s forced to choose between getting the job done and saving the life of a spoiled socialite.
But Clark isn’t the only one after the artifact.
He and Adelaide must work together to survive… if only they can manage to avoid killing each other before their enemies have the chance.

“I’m sure my ankle is fine now. Feel free to set me down at any time.”
“Gladly,” Xav said. “I mean, you aren’t wearing shoes, and I’m sure your delicate socialite feet are more than accustomed to picking their way across broken bottles and cigarette butts, but here you go.” Xavier unceremoniously plopped Addie on her feet. She gingerly tested her ankle but said nothing.
“Xavier, you can’t make Addie walk in this. Pick her back up.” This from my more compassionate brother.
“Whatever. The girl is heavier than she looks. I’ll pick her back up when she asks me to. Nicely.” He folded his arms over his chest.
“Don’t hold your breath. Or better yet, do.” Lending weight to her words, the stubborn girl took off walking. Or limping, rather. In the wrong direction.
“Wrong way,” I alerted her, having finally gotten my bearings despite their banter. She changed course, cursing a bit under her breath. After several paces of listening to her sharp intakes of breath, I turned around and hauled her over my good shoulder.
“I was doing fine.”
Her pride was unbelievable.
“Of course you were, but we’d like to get there sometime today, so be a good girl and stay still.”
Her outraged hiss did more to amuse me than anything. In the midst of this mission gone wrong, I found myself with the urge to laugh. I held it back, but there was something about this girl that I couldn’t help but find humorous.
Xavier hadn’t been entirely joking. The weight of the girl and her dress was fairly substantial for how tiny she looked. I had noticed that on the walk to the forest, but it was more pronounced with her on only one shoulder. Her dress was billowing in my face, and I kept having to blow the dirt-covered fabric out of my mouth. Thankfully, it was only a few more minutes to Wesley’s container.
A cautious hand crept toward my belt pocket. She wasn’t shy, I’d give her that. With a sigh, I covered the slim hand with my larger one.
“I don’t blame you for trying, but that’s not how this works. I told you, you’ll get this necklace back when I get the one I want,” I told her.
