Saturday Sing-Along is a meme that I created after realizing that I have way too many playlists on Spotify dedicated to my favorite book series. I am constantly making playlists to go along with my favorite books so I thought that I would share those songs with others. Hopefully, others would love to join in and we can share and discuss the songs that fit perfectly with our fandoms and the moods that the music creates for them.
RULES
1. Pick 3 - 5 songs that remind you of a book or series. (Or pick an entire playlist if your heart desires!)
2. The songs do not have to be about the same book or series. Mix things up if you wish.
3. Post the title and artist of the song and then the book or series that it reminds you of. As a bonus, you can tell us what character or couple the song reminds you of and why.
4. Post a few lines of lyrics from the song (or all of them if you want, go wild!) that best represent the book or series (or character or couple, etc.). Unless it's instrumental, obviously. =)
5. As a bonus, you can post or link to a YouTube video of your songs so that it is easy for others to listen to them and experience your playlist.
If you are participating, these rules are not set in stone. Make this your own thing and change things up if you like. This is supposed to be fun, after all. =)
I just reread the Steel & Stone series by Annette Marie for the third time. Since the series is on my mind at the moment, it felt like the perfect time to share some of my playlist for this series.
THE STEEL & STONE SERIES PLAYLIST PART 1
1. Never Surrender by Liv Ash This song feels like my theme song for the series as a whole.
Take on the night to reach the morning
We'll write our names in blood and glory
Oh, our hearts are unafraid of making our own fate
And we don't need to wait
Walking through fire will leave us stronger
And we might grow tired but not going under
Breaking all the chains
It's time to take our place
We're a phoenix rising
From the ashes fighting
Our courage climbing
We'll never, never surrender
This is our battle
Won't stay in the shadows now
Living for tomorrow
We'll never, never surrender
2. The Other Side by Ruelle
This song reminds me of the ending of book three and the start of book four. That's all I'm going to say because spoilers.
I don't want to know who we are without each other
It's just too hard
I don't want to leave here without you
I don't want to lose part of me
Will I recover that broken piece?
Let it go and unleash all the feelings
Is it fair, or is it fate?
No one knows
The stars choose their lovers, save my soul
It hurts just the same
And I can't tear myself away
Did we ever see it coming?
Will we ever let it go?
We are buried in broken dreams
We are knee-deep without a plea
I don't want to know what it's like to live without you
Don't want to know the other side of a world without you
3. My Demons by Starset
This song reminds of Piper when she is succumbing to the Sahar and shading. It also reminds me of Ash and his state of mind after escaping Asphodel.
Mayday! Mayday!
The ship is slowly sinking
They think I'm crazy but they don't know the feeling
They're all around me,
Circling like vultures
They wanna break me and wash away my colors
Wash away my colors
I cannot stop this sickness taking over
It takes control and drags me into nowhere
I need your help, I can't fight this forever
I know you're watching,
I can feel you out there
Take me over the walls below
Fly forever
Don't let me go
I need a savior to heal my pain
When I become my worst enemy
The enemy
Take me high and I'll sing
Oh you make everything okay
We are one in the same
Oh you take all of the pain away
Save me if I become
My demons
4. Incredible by SECRETS
This song reminds me of how Piper makes Ash feel. How she awakens something good in him. Even Lyre comments to Seiya about how Piper is good for Ash.
I spent 8 years down inside a hole
To convince myself where I was was home
But the better part of giving up was awoken in you
Mistook comfort for love
I lost myself and gave the searching up
You found me at my worst from there
You got me feeling like brand new
Through the pain and all the guilt
You’re all I needed to rebuild
We never knew but it was so inevitable
You brought to life inside of me
The man I never thought I'd be
A place I know that I can call incredible
Broken down I was all alone
Stuck in a hell hole I called home
I never thought I could be saved
But then by grace
You found me down in a dark place
Pulled me out of all my old ways
Since then I've never felt anymore shame
When I’m with you
There's a freedom
That I know me
And it deepens who we are
I feel stronger
That I know you
Had to break myself just to show you
But it feels so incredible
5. I'd Rather See Your Stars Explode by Slaves
This song reminds of Piper and the way her father makes her feel. At least for most of the series.
Kick me when I'm down
Keep me on the ground
From the ones who I thought they would never leave
Who gave you so much faith?
Who gave you so much power?
You turned it all against me
Kick me when I'm down
Keep me on the ground
There's no black and white when it comes to pain
All I gave up, it's still not enough
You're twisting my demons like there is no love
When push comes to shove that fine line gives up
I'm left with the feeling of chasing a rush
I'm feeling alive like it's the first time
But you're goin' and you're goin' and you're gone tonight
I'm feeling alive like it's the first time
Never gonna be a part of me this time
I know you'll write me off
I know you're always gonna count me out
You think I'm gonna let you down?
Just wait
Gonna show what I've got left
You haven't even seen my best
Just wait
So there are the first five songs of my Steel & Stone series Playlist. Do any of these songs speak true to any of you for this series? What other songs do you think would fit into the mood for this series? I'd love to add more song to my playlist so feel free to share! I adore The Messenger Chronicles series by Pippa DaCosta. The final book comes out this year and I am so stoked for it!
THE MESSENGER CHRONICLES PLAYLIST PART 1
1. Monster by Starset This song reminds me of Kesh and Oberon and at times Kesh and Eledan. For Oberon, how Kesh was conditioned to love Faerie and Oberon even through the horrible things that she was put through and made to do. For Eledan, I am reminded of their hate/love relationship from the beginning.
Under the knife I surrendered
The innocence yours to consume
You cut it away
And you filled me up with hate
Into the silence you sent me
Into the fire consumed
You thought I'd forget
But it's always in my head
This is the world you've created
The product of what I've become
My soul and my youth
Seems it's all for you to use
If I could take back the moment
I let you get under my skin
Relent or resist
Seems the monster always wins
You're the pulse in my veins
You're the war that I wage
Can you change me?
You're the love that I hate
You're the drug that I take
Will you cage me?
You're the pulse in my veins
You're the war that I wage
Can you change me?
From the monster you made me?
My heart's an artifice, a decoy soul
I lift you up and then I let you go
I've made an art of digging shallow holes
I'll drop the tiniest seed and watch it grow
My heart's an artifice, a decoy soul
Who knew the emptiness could be so cold?
I've lost the parts of me that make me whole
I am the darkness
I'm a monster
2. Astronomical by Svrcina
This song reminds me of Kesh and her pull towards Kellee and Talen. Especially Talen. There is also a double entendre or double meaning present in just the title of the song that I won't go into because, spoilers.
The endless of darkness is hovering
The sound of the silence is deafening
Ten billion decibels shattering
I'm drawn to the unknown, where shadows hide
A slave to the powers that magnetize
There's something inside of me, I can't fight
Can anybody stop me?
Forces of gravity taking me, taking me
Weightlessness forsaking me
Oh, this pull is astronomical
Oh, this pull is astronomical
3. Letting Go by Eyes Set To Kill
A Kesh song.
Do you feel like the world turned its back on you
Like no one hears what you say
Pouring your heart out in everything you do
With no reward, just the pain
You're stuck in the cycle
Of setting the blame
Don't think about where you are
But where you could be
It's like the place that you want to be
Is right outside of your window
So why is it so hard to reach out
And step into the unknown
The longer you hold on
To old memories
Of all the mistakes you made
The longer you'll wait
Don't lose your mind
Telling yourself to change
Just keep your head straight
The hardest part is letting go
You've got to prove your life's hard
And jump into the dark
And when you find the light you'll know
That it was always the struggle
To leave it behind, let it go
4. Become the Beast by Karliene
This is a Kellee and Kesh song. The lyrics speak for themselves. (If you've read the series then you know what I mean.)
I've always been a hunter
Nothing on my tail
But there was something in you
I knew, could make that change
To capture a predator
You can't remain the prey
You have to become
An equal in every way
So look in the mirror
And tell me, who do you see?
Is it still you? Or is it me?
So embrace the darkness
And I will help you see
That you can be limitless
And fearless, If you follow me
We are the lions, In a world of lambs
We are the predators,
The hunters,The hunters,The hunters.
Become the beast
We don't have to hide
Do I terrify you, Or do you feel alive?
Do you feel the hunger?
Does it howl inside?
Does it terrify you, Or do you feel alive?
Splinters of my soul
Cut through your skin
And burrow within
Burrow within
5. Stand Alone by Generdyn, ft. ZAYDE WØLF
This is a total Kesh anthem. Especially from the beginning of the series.
I see the place where I was born
I was raised by the new dawn
And now I sit inside the storm
Like the eye of the pyramid
I know everything ahead
I'm on the hunt don't you forget
Somebody turned off all the lights
They try to steal like a parasite
But they can't take away the fight
Cause I've been wild since I been a kid
Living life hangin off the grid
No, I aint never ever gonna quit
Gotta work for it, work for it everyday, work for it
I stand alone
Can't get much higher
It's in my bones
The true survivor
I stand alone
I keep on rising
Up to the throne
I won't stop fighting
Cause I stand alone

Since I just finished my reread of the Shadow and Bone series by Leigh Bardugo, I decided to share part of my playlist for this series.
THE SHADOW AND BONE SERIES PLAYLIST PART 1
1. Castle by Halsey This song reminds me of Alina. How when she first came to the Little Palace and was placed on a pedestal. Like she was already the Queen to The Darkling's King.
Sick of all these people talking, sick of all this noise
Tired of all these cameras flashing, sick of being poised
Oh, all these minutes passing, sick of feeling used
If you wanna break these walls down, you’re gonna get bruised
Now my neck is open wide, begging for a fist around it
Already choking on my pride, so there's no use crying about it
I'm headed straight for the castle
They wanna make me their queen
And there's an old man sitting on the throne
That's saying that I probably shouldn't be so mean
I'm headed straight for the castle
They’ve got the kingdom locked up
And there's an old man sitting on the throne
That's saying I should probably keep my pretty mouth shut
Straight for the castle
There's no use crying about it
2. Whose Side Are You On by Tommee Profitt, ft. Ruelle
This song reminds me of Alina and The Darkling. After Alina has found out his true intentions, feeling betrayed, and then a general feeling of separation from him.
There’s two sides to every story
But I don’t know how this one ends
You want fire and you want glory
But there’s a struggle that lies within
Light and dark are intertwining
Standing here face to face
Betrayal burns and there’s no hiding
It cuts deeper than a razor blade
There’s a war in my head and I don’t understand
How we ended up here
There’s a tear in my heart where your lies left a mark
And now nothing is clear
Whose side are you on?
Whose side are you on?
War lines have been drawn
Whose side are you on?
3. Crown by Halflives
This song reminds me of Alina during the middle of the series. How she was broken down by The Darkling and determined to put her big girl panties on and defeat him.
I can't find the answers
I'm a wanderer into the night
Can't find my own direction
Wasted all my strength over these fights
Yeah, I crawled till I was bleeding
And ruined my heart from the inside
I have fought against my demons
They consumed my dreams as years went by
I can't stand so royal
On my throne I'm sitting paralyzed
Sinking into paranoia
But this won't decay before my eyes
Take me closer to the daylight
Can't you hear this is my battle cry
'Cause I know that I've been taken down
Now I'm a fire about to blow
And from these smoking ashes on the ground
I'm gonna rise and wear my crown
I'll go and get it now
I'll go and get my crown
Take me closer to this last fight
Can't you hear this is my battle cry
'Cause I've been living on the edge yeah
And I know what it's like to break down
But now that I have braved the storms I,
I'm coming back to get my crown
4. When The Darkness Comes by Colbie Caillat
This song reminds me of Alina and Mal, but also Alina and The Darkling. For Mal, this some reminds me of when he was being a douche in the middle of the series and fighting and drinking his pain away. For The Darkling, it is more of a general feeling from the first book when Alina first comes to the Little Palace. The lyrics also kind of have a double entendre or double meaning since they are talking about the sun, hence Alina, and darkness, hence The Darkling.
Underneath the echoes, Buried in the shadows
There you were
Drawn into your mystery, I was just beginning
To see your ghost
Now the door is open, The world I knew is broken
There's no return
Now my heart is not scared, Just knowing that you're out there
Watching me
So believe I'll be here waiting
Hoping, praying that, This light will guide you home
When you're feeling lost I'll leave my love
Hidden in the sun
For when the darkness comes
5. Kings Never Die by Eminem, ft. Gwen Stefani
This is a total Darkling anthem.
Do whatever I gotta do just to win
'Cause I got this motherfucking cloud over my head
Crown around it, thorns on it
Cracks in it, bet you morons didn't
Think I'd be back, did ya?
'Cause I been lost tryna think of what I did to get here but I'm not a quitter
Obliterate anyone in the way
If I'm here today and gone tomorrow
And I'm not gonna be
Here to stay
Even when I'm gone
When I close my eyes
Through the passage of time
Kings never die

THE FOLK OF THE AIR PLAYLIST PART 3
1. Meet Me on the Battlefield by Svrcina This song reminds me of Jude and Cardan. Kind of how they could change the game and make things better for Faerie if they were united. And if they did then they could be casualties, or they could change everything.
No time for rest, No pillow for my head
Nowhere to run from this, No way to forget
Around the shadows creep, Like friends, they cover me
Just wanna lay me down and finally, Try to get some sleep
We carry on through the storm, Tired soldiers in this war
Remember what we're fighting for
We're standing face-to-face, With our own human race
We commit the sins again and our sons and daughters pay
Our tainted history, is playing on repeat
But we could change it if we stand up strong and take the lead
When I was younger, I was named
A generation unafraid
For heirs to come, be brave
Meet me on the battlefield
Even on the darkest night
I will be your sword and shield, your camouflage
And you will be mine
Echos and the shots ring out
We may be the first to fall
Everything can stay the same or we could change it all
Meet me on the battlefield
2. This Light I Hold by Memphis May Fire ft. Jacoby Shaddix
Definitely a Jude song, amiright? Cardan context in there as well as Faerie in general.
I feel the spotlight, I see their eyes
They lit a fire just to burn me alive
I feel the judgment, I hear the lies
But I won't go down without a fight
I won't go down without a fight
I'm not going down
I hear them twist my words, And mock everything I'm saying
They hope I'll crash and burn, But I'm here and I'm staying
It's like everywhere I turn, My enemies are waiting
To hurt me cause they're hurt, So I keep on praying
They stabbed me in the back
But these scars have made me stronger
Always under attack but I can't be conquered
Remind me of what I lack, And hope I won't last much longer
Try to push me off track, But I'll stay right here with my honor
I'm here and I'm not leaving until I'm finished
With every punch you throw, I'll get back up and go
Hate me, but I never said you had to listen
This story is my own and this light I hold will glow
This light I hold will glow
You should know by now, you can't just push me out
I will not let this go
I might be bruised and beat but I am on my feet
You'll never win this war
This story is my own
With my hands raised up high
I'll keep fighting the good fight and I am not alone
This light I hold will glow!
3. Warrior by Demi Lovato
A Jude song directed towards Madoc and Jude's stolen childhood.
This is a story that I have never told
I gotta get this off my chest to let it go
I need to take back the light inside you stole
You're a criminal, And you steal like you're a pro
Out of the ashes, I'm burning like a fire
You can save your apologies, you're nothing but a liar
I've got shame, I've got scars
That I will never show
I'm a survivor
In more ways than you know
There's a part of me I can't get back
A little girl grew up too fast
All it took was once, I'll never be the same
Now I'm taking back my life today
Nothing left that you can say
'Cause you were never gonna take the blame anyway
All the pain and the truth, I wear like a battle wound
So ashamed, so confused, I was broken and bruised
Now I'm a warrior
Now I've got thicker skin
I'm a warrior
I'm stronger than I've ever been
And my armor, is made of steel, you can't get in
I'm a warrior
And you can never hurt me again
4. Walk Through the Fire by Zayde Wølf (ft. Ruelle)
This song reminds me of Jude and Cardan at the end of The Wicked King.
I'm always wondering, If it's ever gonna end
I can feel it in my bones
Standing in the dust, Of what's left of us
I can see you in my soul
I try to understand, How we're here again In the middle of the storm There's no way to go But straight through the smoke And the fight is all we know
The fight is all we know
Did we take too many chances?
Did we let too many pass us?
Did we throw it all away?
Did we light too many matches?
Turn ourselves into these ashes?
Did we throw it all away?
We walk through the fire
Is there a way out?
Is there a way out?
We walk through the fire
Is there a way out?
Is there a way out of the fire?
5. The World Is Not Enough by Garbage
If Cardan and Jude ruled Faerie this would be their song.
I know how to hurt, I know how to heal
I know what to show , And what to conceal
I know when to talk , And I know when to touch
No one ever died from wanting too much
People like us , Know how to survive
There's no point in living , If you can't feel the life
We know when to kiss , And we know when to kill
If we can't have it all , Then nobody will
I feel sick , I feel scared , I feel ready
And yet unprepared
The world is not enough
But it is such a perfect place to start, my love
And if you're strong enough
Together we can take the world apart, my love
The world is not enough
The world is not enough
No, nowhere near enough
The world is not enough

Last week I started posting songs from my The Cruel Prince/The Wicked King playlist. I am continuing with this series for today's post as well. Now on to part 2!
THE FOLK OF THE AIR PLAYLIST PART 2
1. Throne by Bring Me The Horizon This song brings me so much emotion when thinking about the end of The Wicked King! No spoilers, but those of you that have read it will probably understand perfectly.
Remember the moment you left me alone and
Broke every promise you ever made
I was an ocean, lost in the open
Nothing could take the pain away
The sticks and the stones that
You used to throw have, Built me an empire
So don’t even try, To cry me a river
'Cause I forgive you
You are the reason I still fight
So you can throw me to the wolves
Tomorrow I will come back
Leader of the whole pack
Beat me black and blue
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
I’ll leave you choking
On every word you left unspoken
Rebuild all that you’ve broken
And now you know
Every wound will shape me
Every scar will build my throne
2. Heaven or Hell by Digital Daggers
This is a song that reminds me of Jude and Cardan and their feelings for each other.
I’ve got the same deep wounds as you
My love can double as a weapon too
Say that you trust it and I’ll set it free
Turn it back on me
We trade our secrets when it’s safe
Our ammunition when the fever breaks
Show me the side no one else sees
Turn it back on me
I am exposed, I am undone
You tear the walls down one by one
In you I found my only faith
I lost my halo to your renegade
This love could bring me to my knees
Turn it back on me
We tried to run, we tried to hide in fear of losing ourselves
We tried to keep it all inside so we don’t hurt someone else
When all the demons come alive I’ll still be under your spell
This could be heaven or hell
This could be heaven or hell
3. Fragile Bones by Palisades
This is a song that reminds me of Cardan, from his point of view. About how Jude is pulling his strings.
Under your scope so you can see close
Analyze the way that my colors take fold
You pin my wings down so you can find out
How long it'll take 'til I fall to the open ground
'Cause I wanna know, and do you reap what you sow?
And do you dull whatever seems to have a pulse?
You try and fix me, to fix your machine
But what's alive can never live without a soul
I drag around all the weight of your words
Shutting me down so your voice can be heard
Make me your clone, make me your own
You think you're curing a disease
You got the answers, the vaccines
You're making me hate me, making me hate me
Pull at the strings to play your scene
But I cut the ties from underneath
You'll never save me, you'll never save me
Try to be the one that you want and it just wasn't enough
You took all my pride and turned it to dust
You take my fragile bones and you'll make them your own
You wanted everything 'til nothing's left of me
4. Deep End by Ruelle
This song reminds me of Jude. In The Cruel Prince trying to deal with Cardan and his cruel friends and managing Dain and everything else. In The Wicked King, handling Cardan and all the pressures on her shoulders.
Where can I go?
When the shadows are calling, Shadows are calling me
What can I do?
When it's pulling me under, Pulling me underneath
Like light in my veins
Darkness is sinking
Darkness is sinking me
Commanding my soul
I am under the surface
Where the blackness burns beneath
It's getting close, I lose control
It's taking over
I'm slipping into the deep end
I'm in over my head
I can't catch my breath
I'm slipping into the deep end
Feel the current within
I can't help but give in
I'm lost in the deep end
I'm lost…
5. FEEL NOTHING by The Plot In You
This song reminds me of Jude's feelings towards Madoc and Taryn at the end of The Wicked King.
Before I say another word, Just know that my intentions were pure
But you can't stand to be in silence
All you can hear is your own voice, fueling delusion in you
And I'm just, So sick of backing down that I might just spill it all
And if I do you won't be coming back without a deep scar in your soul
Are you not sick of playing games, Sick of giving blame
Sick of fucking living like the world has never given you a life defining day?
My mind is torn, I hate it but I long to feel what I felt before
But you just keep moving towards me, What do I do what do I say?
Can you kindly just refrain, What's here for me
Broke away but you're starving for closure
Seem together but you know that I know ya
Know this is real, this is real
And I can't relate
And I feel nothing for you
I feel nothing for you
And I feel
It's too late, too late
I've buried this and it's evident
You won't change, won't change
I feel nothing for you
Why hide the truth
That I feel nothing for you
