ABOUT THE BOOK TL
twisted love-complete

Stevie Colvin’s rules are simple.
Don’t bother to learn anyone’s names. (Why bother if they won’t be around tomorrow?)
Keep things light and fun.
Be an equal opportunist to all sexes.
And no one becomes long term. No relationships and none of those pesky things like feelings can enter. Especially with a sexy supercross rider, who is as much a player as she is.
From the moment she met Christopher Singer, he seemed to get under her skin like no one else could and made her feel things she hadn’t in a long time. Something she will not allow. Only one person has gotten past Stevie’s layers. But even Jaymerson doesn’t know the full truth about the darkness and demons which haunt Stevie’s past…the ones she has pushed far down. She wants to ignore every detail of the devastating loss and horrifying night that almost took her life.
When an incident brings Stevie and Chris back together in the same town, their past and present crash into a struggle of grief and horrendous tragedy.
Stevie needs to decide: handle the pain and break every rule she has, which might shatter her for good or choose to protect herself and run from it all…

MY REVIEW OF TL

Disclaimer: This review MAY contain SPOILERS.

If you thought that Jaymerson's story wrecked you and knocked you to the ground, then prepare yourself to be obliterated and buried in rubble. Stevie's story will pull your heart from your chest and leave you in an emotional stupor.

I love that this book picks up where the second book of the series left off but from Stevie's POV instead of Jaymerson's. I had honestly expected the story to backtrack to parts of the series we had already experienced through Jaymerson's eyes. We do get to see some past events through Stevie's flashbacks, which I preferred. I would be lying if I said that I wasn't thrilled to get more of Jaymerson and Hunter and their friends. I would totally support more stories about this group of friends. I would love books dedicated to Jones/Megan, Doug, and Krista/Jason. These characters really grow in your heart and will leave you wanting more of them.

Stevie's character growth in this book was amazing. Her journey is powerful, heart-rending, and by the end of the story very uplifting. She has experienced horrors and heartache in her past and her personality was shaped by these events. She is running from her demons and it is starting to affect her life like she never thought it could. It forces her to accept her feelings and stop running from things she has no control over. Realizing and accepting that she is in love with Chris and that he feels the same for her is a jumping-off point for her to start healing from her past and open back up. Chris's journey was also heartbreaking. He also experienced horrors and pain in his past and when this book starts out he is dealing with some of that all on his own. A chance meeting with Stevie brings them back together and they both start coming to terms with some of the heavy stuff.

I loved the friendships that are shown in the book. The meaning of true friendship is shown through many of the characters. We also get to meet Stevie's New York friends and see how she comes to realize their importance to her and she uncovers the layers of her past and opens up. Friendship is a common theme through this book and I loved exploring it through each of the characters.

I loved the romance in this book. First of all, seeing Hunter and Jayme in a happy place was incredible. I would give almost anything to read a story about them five years down the road. Seeing them and their friend group starting families and their lives falling into place would be the best. I loved the chemistry between Stevie and Chris. It is said in the book that they have both met their match in the other, and it's so true! They are so alike and they deal with their issues in much the same manner as the other. They are perfect for each other and it definitely shows in the writing. I was thrilled with their ending in this book. My heart soared.

The plot in this part of the series is less intense than the previous books but no less impactful. Things mostly take place in a short span of a few weeks, but this is plenty of time to tell Stevie and Chris's story. Things fall into place really well and the story never feels rushed or lacking. I love that the author can express so much and show so much in such a short amount of time for the characters.

Overall, I couldn't be more impressed with Stevie's story! I had such high expectations and I was not disappointed at all. I am wishing on every star that Stacey Marie Brown chooses to write more books in this series. I am besotted with these characters and I can't get enough of them! I would cherish more books from other character POVs and even books set in the future with these characters. If you are searching for a meaningful, well written, expertly plotted, and altogether incredible series then you should pick this one up! I can't give this series enough praise!

It’s the end of summer. Just before I start senior year with my two best friends in the whole world. Dustin and Emily are everything to me. We’ve been inseparable since middle school, and when we’re together, nothing can go wrong.

But things aren’t always what they seem. Em’s turned into a drunken mess who parties too much. Dustin and I have hooked up a few times—and now he’s ready to take our relationship to the next level. Yet I’m not sure I want things to change. I’m scared if I take it any further with Dustin, our friendship will be ruined forever. Then there’s Ryan. The new guy. He’s hot. He flirts way too much. And Em has totally set her sights on him.

So when my best friend betrays me in the worst possible way, guess who’s there to help me pick up the pieces of my broken heart? Ryan. But he’s so confusing. Annoying. Sweet. Sexy. I want to trust him, yet he makes it so hard. What I really want is for everything to go back to the way it was before.

Before I found out that best friends make the worst kind of enemies.

MY REVIEW
Disclaimer: This review MAY contain SPOILERS.

This is a hard series for me to rate or review. One one hand, I really enjoyed reading this book and the prequel and I sped through them at record speed. On the other hand, they don't really have many of the qualities that I admire in a good book. In fact, there are hardly any despite the fact that I enjoyed reading them so much. I think that I would lump this series in the "guilty pleasure" category.

This book is pretty much devoid of plot aside from the romantic lives of the characters. It drives the entire story. Not much else happens throughout the book. And the majority of it is just teenagers hooking up, having sex, and betraying one another in love triangles and squares. It sounds juvenile, and perhaps it is, but I will say that it was compelling and entertaining. This story is about drama to the max.

The different character types definitely made the story interesting, though I thought that some of them could have used way more character development. For instance, Emily was the most drama-filled character in the book. She was always starting drama, lying, hooking up with guys, drinking, doing drugs, partying, and just pretty much awful. At no point in the book does it give her any character growth as to why she acts the way she does. It mentions that she started doing these things a few months prior to the end of their junior year of high school and she progressively got worse as the story went on, but it never shows us the root of her issues. There was definitely a missed opportunity there. Ryan's character was a tough one to pin down for me. He was a total douche at the start of the book. All he wanted was to hook up with Livvy, but by the end, he had truly fallen for her. It was almost like I didn't want to forgive his douchebaggery just because he develops real feelings for Livvy and at times felt that Livvy should feel the same. Livvy's character was confusing at times. She is attracted to Ryan, who is a douche if you remember, and is rebuffing his advances in the beginning but when she realizes that they have chemistry she is all in and chases after him and ignores said douchebaggery. I am honestly not sure if I liked Livvy's character or not. At certain times I did, and others I didn't. I wish that we could have seen things from different POVs like in the prequel novella. I would have liked to get into everyone's head.

The romance, if it can be called that, was entertaining. Very entertaining and dramatic. And some parts got pretty heated and very graphic. This is a young adult book, but like Paper Princess by Erin Watts, it pushes some boundaries in this area. This is not a book that I think I would feel comfortable letting my high school aged child read. The book is definitely geared toward older teenagers.

The cliffhanger was totally mean. Just saying.

Overall, this is definitely a story that will suck you in. If you can't handle teenage drama then this book may not be for you. If reading about teenagers dabbling at romance and friendships appeals to you then you're in good shape with this one. This book is full of drama, frenemies, betrayal, love triangles, and star-crossed lovers. You won't want to put it down once you start reading.

Title: To Best the Boys
Author: Mary Weber
Publisher:  Thomas Nelson
Published: March 5, 2019
Pages: 352
Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy

Every year for the past fifty-four years, the residents of Pinsbury Port receive a mysterious letter inviting all eligible-aged boys to compete for an esteemed scholarship to the all-male Stemwick University. Every year, the poorer residents look to see that their names are on the list. The wealthier look to see how likely their sons are to survive. And Rhen Tellur opens it to see if she can derive which substances the ink and parchment are created from, using her father’s microscope.

In the province of Caldon, where women are trained in wifely duties and men are encouraged into collegiate education, sixteen-year-old Rhen Tellur wants nothing more than to become a scientist. As the poor of her seaside town fall prey to a deadly disease, she and her father work desperately to find a cure. But when her Mum succumbs to it as well? Rhen decides to take the future into her own hands—through the annual all-male scholarship competition.

With her cousin, Seleni, by her side, the girls don disguises and enter Mr. Holm’s labyrinth, to best the boys and claim the scholarship prize. Except not everyone’s ready for a girl who doesn’t know her place. And not everyone survives the maze.

Thoughts

This book sounds so incredible to me! I actually have an ARC of this that I need to get to ASAP. I really enjoyed Weber's Storm Siren series and though I haven't read The Evaporations of Sofi Snow series, I think it sounds good also!
