No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn't fooling around. Doubting him isn't something I'll do again, and now that we've made it through the rough patches, well... There's a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can't protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I'm no longer the same Katy. I'm different... And I'm not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I'm capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won't turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we're stronger...and they know it.

MY REVIEW
DISCLAIMER: This review MAY contain spoilers.

Holy cliffhanger, Batman! If I had been reading this as a new release instead of as a backlist title then I'd be a little disgruntled right now. But only in the best of ways. Luckily, I don't have to wait an entire year to read the next book in the Lux series. And yes, I am starting it the moment I finish typing up this review.

I feel so many things right now. My emotions are bouncing off of each other giving the same effect that the onyx has on Luxen and hybrids in this series. I won't go into that any further since that is in spoiler territory, but if you have read the series up to this point then you know what I am talking about. -wink-

I think what I like most about this series is the characters and the relationships they have. These characters are full of depth and they bring so much to the table. The chemistry between characters is addicting. The relationships with their highs and lows are so well written that I get giddy thinking about it. The character development is really a work of art.

I love that I never know what to expect when it comes to the plot of the story. I am always surprised. While I suppose that an alien paranormal premise isn't something new, I love how uniquely the ideas are executed. Everything really comes together nicely. And for being a middle book in a series, this book was wholly engaging. No middle book slump at all.

The romance is very realistic in its own way. Sure the main couple is comprised or a mutated human and an alien, but when they aren't concerned with all the alien drama in their lives they behave as a normal couple would. They make each other happy, they protect one another, and they fight and argue as a normal couple would. I really like that. A lot of books can gloss over all the normal aspects of a relationship, but we don't see that with this book. And all of the thoughtful things that Daemon does or says just melt my heart. He definitely gets a good rating on the book boyfriend list.

While this story takes place in our everyday world, I like how seamlessly the paranormal aspects are sprinkled into it. It makes everything so believable.

Overall, I am so in love with this series! It gives you the feels like when you are a teenager and you are pining after the cutest boy in school. If you enjoy swoon-worthy romance, an exciting and unpredictable plot, and characters that you want to absorb into your own life then you will want to pick up this series!

What are your thoughts on cliffhangers? I haven't come across one in a while so this one threw me a bit. Which new books have you added to your TBR lately?
