Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

MY REVIEW
DISCLAIMER: This review MAY contain spoilers.

I can only imagine that reading this book is the closest feeling to the high a person gets from injecting drugs. You know, without all the nastiness of side effects and such. If I could melt this book down I bet I could sell it like heroin. I'd be set for life and would want for nothing ever again. -sigh- I don't want this high to end. Thank goodness there are three more books in this series to slick my lust!

This author writes characters that consume you. They sink into you and ravage through your veins like the newest designer drug leaving you all but hanging onto reality. The backstories, the chemistry between characters, and the character progression all flow with each other to make these characters truly exceptional. The reading experience with this cast of characters is one of the best that I've read.

The plotting of the story was cleverly concocted and pretty tantalizing. As things progressed in the story, I was constantly trying to piece things together in my mind and figure out the plot twists. It was almost like reading a murder mystery. I was on the edge of my seat, so to speak. The foreshadowing was threaded into the story adeptly. I was very impressed.

The romance in this book far outpassed the first book. I love the hate-to-love slow burn romance. It really digs in deep and makes you feel so many emotions. I fell so in love with the complicated romance between the main characters. I love how there are so many factors surrounding their romance. Things that they fight, things that they have to overcome, and things outside of their power to change. Their journey is so impactful. And Daemon is freaking hot, so there's that. Prepare your bookshelf for a new book boyfriend. Just saying.

Overall, this is one of the best book experiences I've had. For real. The writing is so masterful and the characters will find a special place in your heart by the end. I definitely have a new favorite author, and luckily there is a backlist of titles waiting for me! If you enjoy suspenseful plotting, characters with depth, and a romance that will give you heart palpitations then this book (and this series) is the drug that you are looking for. Please read responsibly.
