Release Blitz & Review: The Wildcat (Playing to Win #2) by Bella Matthews

The Wildcat by Bella Matthews is now live!

Title: The Wildcat
Series: Playing to Win #2
Author: Bella Matthews
Release Date:
February 8, 2024

What do you get when you mix a devastatingly handsome hockey player who doesn’t do casual with a blonde bombshell cheerleader who doesn’t do serious?

I was supposed to be taking the summer off from dating… and flirting… and men in general. A cleanse. It sounded good in theory. But theory went out the window when my own personal kryptonite sat on the bar stool next to mine.

Six feet, five inches of stacked muscle and chiseled features, he exuded a cocky confidence that was hard to miss and even harder to resist. This man was delectable. Like a decadent piece of chocolate cake, tempting me to indulge.

And that was before I knew how he tasted.

The rules were simple:

One night.

No names.

No strings.

Until my handsome stranger turned out to be the hot-as-sin star forward for the Philadelphia Revolution hockey team. A single dad with two adorable kids who tug at my heart strings, and a family almost as obnoxious as my own.

But Cross Wilder isn’t looking for a hookup.

And I’m not looking for a fairytale.

The question is — do I have a choice?

This is such an outstanding series that is contributing immensely to my hockey romance era addiction and I couldn't be happier about that.

When I read the first book of this series, The Keeper, I was completely floored by how much I connected with Bella Matthews' writing style. It was like a comforting, warm hug. Her storytelling is so relatable and polished that it's hard not to be drawn right in. The plot of this story was executed marvelously. I loved how the tropes were played out. Matthews has a knack for hooking you into the story so that you don't want to stop. She leaves you hanging on her every word.

Matthews' ability to create characters that completely capture your heart is masterful. The characters are relatable and full of personalities that make them stand out distinctly. It is so easy to fall into their worlds and root for them. The secondary characters were also amazing. They added so much depth to the story and kept things interesting. I loved the bonds in this book. The friendships were a joy to read about.

I am an easy mark for a single-parent romance. They get me every time and they never get old to me. I love all of the emotions involved with this trope. It always keeps things interesting. Cross and Everly's chemistry was out of this world from the start though I loved how they built a relationship from the ground up and got to know each other.

Overall, this book was the perfect blend of wit, steam, and feel-good emotions. It's an ice cream sundae with all the fixings. It really does do it all and do it well. I am so glad that I discovered this author because I mesh with her writing so well. If hockey romance is your cup of tea or if you love a compelling single-dad romance then this book should be at the top of your TBR. I am so eager for the rest of this series and can't wait for more!
