His breath was hot on her temple when, more tenderly than the rest of his touch, Zaethan brushed her dirtied hair back between them. And invoking a gasp, he stripped back her robing. Off her wrist, the leather ties of Marek’s kurtfierï dangled against her barely clothed chest. “Don’t,” Luscia begged him, not from fear but resolve. His mouth did not meet her skin. Instead, his right hand took hers off his forearm, and he lowered their entwined fingers into the cold, snowy muck, flattening them out. “What hope does he have to claim you, Maji’maia, if you still can’t claim yourself?” After lifting her out of the mud, he guided her hand—the same that bore the mark of her testimony before the Enclave—to her throat. Zaethan pasted her handprint against the elder, much uglier scar that marred her lobe to clavicle. Cupping with pressure in place, he did not let go. The ice sank deeper than her scarring. It thawed into her body and pierced a grotto in her soul. Luscia uttered a noise even the animals could not define. With her Tiergan eye, she searched the wood and the lichen-lit emptiness beyond, until she found the harbinger thread lurking in the distance… watching. And in a languid motion, it seemed to nod in agreement. With little force, Zaethan nudged her head aside with his jaw so that his mouth hovered over their conjoined hands. His warm cheek covered her ear, but somehow his voice was a gong, clanging in her deepest places. “Your mask is cracking. So let it fall.” Wavering against her temple, he disentangled his limbs from around her and stood. Zaethan bent. He removed the last undamaged stone from his pocket and gently put it between her filthy feet. “The choice is yours. We need your mask to fall, Luscia. And so do you.”

This is such an outstanding series! Each book gets better and better. I thought that we were already at god-tier level awesome so book four will probably be multiverse level awesome. I can't wait!

K.L. Kolarich is a world-building mob boss! She is a queen in her craft and it is so evident when reading her books. The world-building is massive in this world. I can't even imagine all the time that went into the making of this fantasy world. The plot is riveting and executed beautifully. The premise is creative and original. I love all the lore and different cultures. This book answered so many of our questions but just raised more for us to ponder on. 

These characters are so complex and they jump right off the page. I am so amazed by how much intricate detail has gone into each individual character. All of the characters are distinct and vibrant. The main characters are relatable and easy to connect with. I love all of the interactions between characters. There is some excellent character growth in this book. 

The slow-burn romance in this series is so worth it because every time Zaethan and Luscia interact my heart likes to pitter-patter. I just love them together. 

Overall, this is a book series that you are not going to want to pass up. House of Boreal, as well as the rest of the series, has memorable characters that you will passionately root for, an intricately woven plot that will keep you on your toes, and breathtaking world-building that stands out and makes you take notice. Basically, the best of everything. Get ready for your new favorite fandom!
