Title: He's Not My Type
Series: The Vancouver Agitators #4
Author: Meghan Quinn
Release Date: November 28, 2023

About HE’S NOT MY TYPE:

Word to the wise, never become roommates with a girl you’ve been pining over for the better part of a year.

You’re probably wondering why I would do such a thing? Well, I didn’t.

It was my teammates.

The moment they found out Blakely White was single, they took it upon themselves to play cupid and instruct me on how I should win her over.

Don't wear a shirt around her.
Make her dinner.
Lightly touch her shoulder when you say goodbye.

I'm so flustered, so overwhelmed, so madly in love with this woman who barely notices me, that I lose control of the situation and make one huge mistake: I offer to be her fake date for a wedding so she can make her ex jealous.

That means, for one whole night I get a free pass with her. I get to hold her, dance with her, kiss her…stare at her from across the room like she’s my entire world because she has been for months now.

But when the night comes to an end, I’m faced with two options: bring her back to my bedroom and show her how I really feel, or let her walk away, succumbing to the fact that I very well might not be her type.

This book hit me so hard in the feels that I feel whiplashed. Halsey Holmes ticked off all the checkmarks on my book boyfriend list and I am here for it all day long! This book is by far my favorite book from this series. (So far.)

Meghan Quinn can do no wrong when it comes to sports romances. Sports romances are her jam. I'm telling you, her sports romances stand out to me in a way that her other books can't touch. I am not saying that her other books are bad because they are excellent too. What I am saying is that when I read a sports romance by this author I get a feeling in my chest that just can't compare to anything else. Her sports romances really hit home, have a little extra sparkle to them, and just fit me like they were made for me.

I think a lot of that has to do with Quinn's impeccable and utterly unique writing style. She is able to harness humor like no other author that I have ever read. It never fails that I am laughing out loud, literally, so hard that my family members have to ask if I'm okay. When I was reading this book my kids were in the other room and I was laughing so hard that one of my sons said, "Mom is reading one of those books again" and it tickled me to no end. They don't make comments like that when I read any other author's books. Aside from her trademark humor, Quinn also packs so many emotions into her stories. There was a plot point in this book that really got me in the feels. I love the way that Quinn is able to elicit so many emotions from me in a single book. I also love how her writing style is down to earth and so personable and relatable. I don't feel distanced from the prose in her books. I just feel so at home in her books. She also has quite a knack for plotting and executing her stories. The world-building is also impressive because I always feel so immersed in the characters' lives. I can envision everything perfectly.

Halsey Holmes. There was always something about the soft-spoken bibliophile that made me take notice when he appeared in other books in this series. Out of all the guys in their friend group, he is the one that I always gravitated to. I knew that his story was going to be a good one and I am not surprised that his book is my favorite in the series so far. Halsey has a lot more under the surface than he portrays to the world. He carries a lot of guilt from his twin brother's death and also from the loss of his remaining family members as a result of his twin's death. Blakely is coming off of a breakup with her long-time boyfriend and working through those feelings. She isn't as upset about it as she should be so she is ruminating on that through the first part of the book. Both main characters had some great character development. I loved how relatable they both were and I connected with both of them instantly. I also loved seeing all of the side characters we've grown to love. They all bring so much life to the story. I adore the found family aspect of the story as well. I am also greatly anticipating with fervor the remaining book(s) in the series. I am so curious about the hints that have been dropped and I can't wait for more books!

Oh, and we can't forget about the star character of this book, Sherman, the bonsai tree. Gods, I never knew that I could care so much for a fictional tree.

The romance in this story was so epic! Gah, there were so many aspects of it that I loved. Starting with the topes, we've got roommates, one bed, fake relationship, he falls first, and forced proximity to name a handful. Halsey and Blakely had incredible banter. I loved how they both felt so at ease with one another. Halsey was such a gentleman throughout the story and it made my heart pitter-patter. Even though he was quiet and shy a lot at first there was also a side to him that I wasn't expecting but am so glad to have gotten to know. Halsey Holmes is a man who ensnares you. There was just something about him that was so primal that I definitely took notice. My lady bits were in a tizzy every time he was dominant with Blakely in or out of the bedroom. He had this magnetism that was unparalleled. When that side of him came out in the story I was like, "Yes, please. Can I have some more?" Halsey Holmes is a dirty bird. A dirty-talking, woman-worshipping, adonis and I am HERE for it all day long and then some. Aside from the smexy in the book, in terms of their relationship, I really loved how they seemed to balance each other out. They just fit seamlessly. I also loved their dedication and devotion to each other and how much they showed that they cared.

Overall, I am over the moon with this book! I was so captured by these characters. They stormed in and broke down the door to my heart. Halsey Holmes is a book-boyfriend god and I will worship him over and over because he is #bookboyfriendgoals. If sports romance is your jam then you need this book ASAP. If you love bookish men with muscles and alpha tendencies then you need this book. If you love a well-crafted story with memorable characters that will make an impression then you will want to add this one to your TBR. Basically, you need this book. End of story.

Erin Mallon and Connor Crais narrate this sexy, roommates-to-lovers romance in duet with a full cast including Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton, JF Harding, and Kelsey Navarro!
