At Holden Prep, the rich and powerful rule the school—and they’ll do just about anything to keep their dirty little secrets hidden.
When former con artist Eleanor Ames’s homecoming date commits suicide, she’s positive there’s something more going on. The more questions she asks, though, the more she crosses paths with Miles Beckett. He’s sexy, mysterious, arrogant…and he’s asking all the same questions.
Eleanor might not trust him—she doesn’t even like him—but they can’t keep their hands off of each other. Fighting the infuriating attraction is almost as hard as ignoring the fact that Miles isn’t telling her the truth…and that there’s a good chance he thinks she’s the killer.
I received this book at no cost from the publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first Julie Cross book, and I was very impressed! I was very intrigued by this book. Contemporary books are not my typical jam. Most of them I cannot stand. This book made me question why.
The plot was very compelling. It reminded me very much of Veronica Mars. I really couldn't put the book down. The pacing at the beginning of the story starts out a little slow. The plot builds up gradually and gets better and better as the story progresses. It was very well written and the suspense was great. There were twists and turns that kept me guessing.
Ellie is such a fun character. I liked that she had flaws. A lot of main characters are perfect in every way, and her flaws and darker past made her seem so much more real. She tackles many personal struggles throughout the book. Miles was interesting as well. He also had flaws. I didn't care for how self-righteous he seemed at times. His character was much different from Ellie's, which made the romance very intense. The chemistry was phenomenal! The characters are filled with so much emotion.
I'm going to keep this review brief since I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. It's difficult to write a review for a mystery without spoilers.
Overall, this was a great first in series book! If you are or were a fan of the Veronica Mars television show, then you will love this! The story will pull you in and leave you on the edge of your seat trying to figure things out. I definitely recommend this book! I am very excited to continue this series.
