A standalone brother’s best friend romance
Emilia Ronan has loved Reeve Sawyer since the moment she first saw him. The only problem? He views her as a little sister and nothing more.
Tall, dark and handsome, Reeve is the complete opposite to the vibrant and outspoken Emilia. Not to mention that he’s her older brother's best friend. After years of pining over him and one humiliating rejection, she finally decides it's time to move on, but when Reeve shows up, begging for a shot, can she really say no?
Reeve knows two things to be true in life: you work hard to get what you want and you stay away from Emilia Ronan. It’s clear he's crossing a line, but what happens when he can no longer stay away? Hiding this relationship from his best friend is breaking every code he can imagine, yet he can't seem to stop. But when a ghost from his past shows up, shaking his core, Reeve will have to decide what matters most: keeping secrets from Emilia or simply keeping her.

I loved this book so much! When I first read Saint Street by Scarlett Hopper, I absolutely fell in love with all of the secondary characters in the story. Emilia was a character that really stood out to me and I can't deny that Reeve's character is one that piqued my interest. I was so glad that they got their own story.
Hopper's writing is so easy to connect with. I really love that I can pick up one of her stories and feel so at home in the pages. The narration is smooth and the story flows beautifully. I loved how I was glued to the pages of the story.
The thing that makes Saint Street and this book so special is definitely the characters. These are the types of characters that become a part of you as you read their stories. My heart was really with these characters the whole way. I love how the author writes the characters so emotionally. It makes it so easy to connect with the characters. Emilia's character did not disappoint me. I fell in love with her personality and was so touched by her journey in the book. Reeve continued to be a mysterious character in the story but I couldn't help but adore him. As I previously mentioned, the secondary characters in this world are excellent. I felt so deeply for each and every one of them.
I loved how romantic Reeve was. He was so in love with Emilia and he showed it. Even when they were only friends he found ways to show Emilia that he cared about her. I loved that. He was there for her emotionally which really gave him points in my book. The sexual tension between them was palpable. They had intense chemistry that can only come from knowing someone very well.
Overall, this was a heart-stopping story that sinks into your bones. The story is emotional and compelling. This world and the characters in it have really imprinted on me. I can't even express how excited I am to read Lottie and Owen's story in Late Love that comes out this fall. If you have never tried this author before then I totally recommend it!

“I never wanted it to be like this, Em. I know you don’t believe me, but it always meant more to me. You always meant more to me.” His voice is merely a whisper as he walks to the couch and collects his keys. He slows as he reaches the door, as if he somehow can’t bring himself to go. Then he turns to me, his gaze intimately connecting with my own for what feels like the last time. I close my lids, unable to see him walk away.
“I’m sorry for hurting you, Emilia. Believe me when I tell you it was never my intent.”
“I know,” I whisper back. “I know it wasn’t. But our sad reality is, that you did hurt me and now, now I need to move on, otherwise I’m going to continue to get hurt, but this time, I will have no one to blame but myself.”
His silence is my only reply.
The metal door handle squeals in protest as he turns it, the sound my only way to know he’s leaving. After the thump of the door vibrates through the floor, I finally open my eyes.
He’s gone, and I sink to the floor alone, my emotions expressed with four simple words: he’s broken my heart. But not so simple at all, is it?
