I fell head over heels for these characters. Right from the beginning, I was drawn into the story like a moth to a flame. I honestly didn't place any expectations on this book prior to reading it even though I have never read this author before now, but if I had then they would have been dashed because this story was legit amazing. There is so much to love about this story and I am not even a little bit sorry that I am fangirling right now.

The first thing that pulled me into the story was the writing. I loved Brandy's writing style so much. It was smooth and easy to read but witty and elegant at the same time. From the first page, I knew that this was going to be a story that I meshed with and that I would end up loving. Her writing voice is one that speaks to me and that I was so happy to connect with.

The characters really make this story spectacular. The main characters, Nico and Demi, are so complex and have so many layers to them. There is so much more to them than what is on the surface. They both have such distinct personalities that draw the reader in. I loved the side characters in this book and how important they are to the story. I loved all the friendships that this book has and how they added a lot of depth to the story. Demi and Nico both have great character development.

The romance in the story was addicting. It starts off with a fake romance trope and the author really makes the trope work so well. Nico and Demi were dealing with serious stressors in their lives and they were hiding those things from everyone but were able to unravel those burdens with each other and be a comfort to each other. The way that they were able to open up to each other when they couldn't open up to anyone else was so heartfelt. Their banter was exhilarating and their chemistry, much to their chemistry teacher's amusement, was off the charts.

The plot of this story really had the gears turning in my brain trying to guess what was going to happen. While one thing stood out to me early on, everything else came out of left field. I was shocked and impressed with the way some things turned out in the story. I love it when I can't see something coming beforehand and Brandy did just that. She had me dropping my jaw in some parts of the story. The plot was crafted so expertly that I can't help but smile.

Overall, this is a story that took me by surprise in all the best ways possible. I am so eager to read more books by this author now. I kind of want to shout my newfound fandom for this author from the rooftops. If you enjoy mature young adult stories with multifaceted characters, a riveting plot, and a romance that makes your chest ache then pick this up today!
