Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.

This book was glorious! A simple truth, but I don't know how else to put it. This story absolutely captivated me and drew me into a world that I didn't want to leave in the end. This is actually the first book that I have read by this author (I know, gasp!) and I found myself falling so in love with this story.

The characters in this story are truly magnificent. There is such a weight placed on family and the relationships that we have with family and it was just beautiful. I found myself falling in love with all of these characters. The secondary characters were amazing. Since this is a spin-off novel of Jackson's Bleeding Stars series, we get to see the characters from that series a lot. Jackson does an amazing job writing the bonds and relationships between these characters. I haven't read the Bleeding Stars novels yet and I didn't have any problems connecting with these characters. The main characters, Leif and Mia, were so easy to fall head over heels for. They had so much depth and there was so much growth for them in the story. I feel that Leif especially had amazing character development.

Leif and Mia were so magnetic. They had an instant attraction that dove down deep to carve out pieces of their hearts. They were kindred spirits in a way since they both have dealt with traumas in the past. Little by little they latch on to each other until they truly cannot contain their passion for each other. Their chemistry was so organic and complete that it was jarring. The reader could feel their connection like it was a living thing.

I'll be honest, it took me a while to get used to the writing style. There were parts of it that I really liked and there were parts of it that I didn't mesh with at all. And then there were parts of the writing style that I both loved and hated in equal measure. For instance, Jackson has a very poetic flair to her writing that I really appreciated and enjoyed, but at the same time, it also made it harder to read. So it sounded beautiful but it became a little clunky in parts to compensate for it. I noticed that Jackson forgoes using pronouns quite a bit in her writing, which honestly became frustrating after a while.

The plotting of the story was pretty much perfect. All the pieces fell into place effortlessly. I really liked the direction that Jackson took the story in. There was plenty of foreshadowing and suspense tied into the story. I was itching like crazy to find out more about these characters as the story went on. I was definitely kept on the edge of my seat with this one.

Overall, I was so impressed with this beautiful story. I can honestly say that I think I have found a new favorite author. I can't tell you how jazzed I am to go back and read Jackson's Bleeding Stars series and the rest of her backlist. I can't recommend this book enough!
