Synopsis

Okay, I now have a new favorite series and a new favorite author!! I cannot stress enough how absolutely amazing this book is! This book surpassed all of my expectations and then some. It has everything that I love about young adult books. I simply could not stop reading.

What I liked
These characters are perfection! I instantly fell in love with the three main characters in this series. They are magical. And the way that they flow off of one another's chemistry is flawless. 

The character development is amazing! The backstories and the little things that make up who a character really is shine through. I felt like I knew these characters on a personal level. I felt what they felt and experienced things with them. I just felt so close to them.

While this story is based on other popular ideas, the way that Annette Marie fashioned it is wholly unique. I have never read anything like it. I loved the world that Annette Marie created in this book. I was devouring every detail and I couldn't get enough!

The plot is catching and well thought out. The whole story flows so nicely. There are twists and turns to keep you guessing. All of the elements of a great story are perfectly balanced to keep you wanting more and more. 

I loved the writing style. The story is written very fluidly, taking you exactly where you need to go at exactly the right time. It's brilliant.

What I didn't like
Thinking the series over in my head, I can't come up with a single thing that I disliked while I was reading this series. Not a thing. Seriously. I think that only thing that I dislike is that it comes to an end. 

Would I Recommend It
YES, OMG, YES!!! Get. This. Series. NOW!! If you pick up this series you will not be disappointed. It is rare that a book or a book series touches me so deeply, but this one has become my new favorite. I haven't felt this passionate about a book series in a long time.

Excerpt for CHASE THE DARK (Steel & Stone Book 1)

 Every gun was pointed at her. This time she knew they meant business. The prefects she hadn’t permanently downed took a few steps back, getting out of the potential crossfire.

“Hit one more of my men and we’ll open fire,” the man at the back called. “Lie on the floor with your hands on the back of your head. Now!”

Before she could obey and get arrested, or disobey and get shot, the air rippled. Electricity filled the atmosphere, crackling like lightning about to strike. She heard a weird rushing sound, then there was harsh breathing right behind her; someone stood at her back.

“Are you going to shoot me?” The voice that asked the question was deep and guttural, sepulchral and alien in a way that froze everyone in the vicinity.

Every gun was now aimed at a point just over Piper’s right shoulder. She tried to keep her breathing steady as fear tightened every prefect’s face. Men who had faced the ten-foot minotaur without batting an eyelid, trained and seasoned fighters, were staring over her shoulder with shaking hands and pale faces.

She slowly licked her lips. “Ash?” she whispered.

He shifted closer until he brushed against her back. “Do you have what we need?” he breathed. The heat of his body made her shiver.

“Yes,” she breathed back.

He huffed in relief, sounding almost normal for a second. Then he slid one arm around her waist, delicately as though he were afraid of accidentally crushing her.

“Don’t move or we’ll shoot,” the prefect leader yelled.

“That,”‌ Ash said as he extended one hand in front of Piper, ‌“would only make me angry.”

Piper stared at his hand, too shocked to move or to think. His outspread fingers were black with a dull gleam like leather, the tips smoothly forming long claws. Large black scales covered the back of his hand and ran up the top of his arm like an armguard. The scales gave way to human skin, leaving the underside of his arm disconcertingly normal. Somehow, that was even freakier.

The air grew hot around them. It sizzled. The lead prefect jerked like he was about to yell the word that would riddle Piper and Ash with bullets, then light flashed in Ash’s palm and everything exploded for a second time.

Daemon royalty always had a gaggle of advisors, attendants, and bodyguards following them around.
“Really, Piper. How would I explain the daughter of the Head Consul waiting on me? You should be glad I didn’t have a date already.”
“But—but—” She goggled.
Miysis was one of the top-ranking Overworld daemons. Going as his date was like going to a coronation with a member of a royal family. She’d never imagined he would go out on a limb like that for her. The entire political community would be gossiping about it for months. Synopsis

Things get so much more interesting in the second book of the Steel & Stone series! 

What I liked

I loved that we delved in even more to the characters. We got to see so much more of their past and their inner selves. The character building just keeps getting better with this series! 

I love how much the characters are evolving. They are becoming so much closer. We are seeing more than one side to the characters. Their relationships are sprouting into something beautiful.

I love the way that Piper and Ash are coming together. They seem so perfect for each other, and in other ways not at all. I am so curious to see what becomes of them. I am so rooting for them!

The plot is getting so complex! There are so many little things that are coming together from the first book. We are getting glimpses of things that make us see the bigger picture. The story is so well thought out and comes together nicely as the series progresses. 

What I didn't like

As with the first book, I have no complaints about this book! I loved every moment!

Would I Recommend It

YES. YES. YES. Get this series now and thank me tomorrow. This series really is amazing. I haven't felt this passionate about a book or a series in a long time. I can't wait to finish the next book!

This series is blossoming into something epic. Every book in this series is better than the last. All of my expectations were met with this book, and then some!

What I liked
The most incredible thing about this series is how the story grows into something just so epic. The story being told is so captivating. Everything syncs up with the story so magically. I love all of the details. The way that this plot was thought out is brilliant. My hats off to Annette Marie, because, seriously...epic.

The action scenes are mind blowing! The way that Annette Marie choreographs the action scenes is truly a touch of genius.

The story is so addicting. I was glued to this book. I had to know what was going to happen next. The story is told so passionately that you can't help but crave more.

I love that this book is not predictable. I like that there are twists that you don't see coming. 

I love the way that the characters grow in this book. Especially Piper. She is becoming stronger and more sure of herself. Her growth in this book is really endearing. She struggles with her vulnerabilities, but she comes out on top. I have been rooting for her since the first book. Her character is so likeable. 

What I didn't like
The pacing at the beginning of the book seemed a little slow, but I think that is only because I was going through Ash withdrawals. Hehe. Other than that, I had no negative thought while reading this book. 

Would I Recommend It

Yes. This book, and this series, is a work of genius. I advise picking this up because it will be your new favorite series!

I really love this novella. I really loved getting a deeper glimpse into both Lyre and Seiya. By the end of the novella, you can see something change inside Seiya. I think that the experience changed her deeply. It made her look at things differently from before. You also really get to see the kind of person Lyre really is. He makes a sacrifice for Seiya and it shows how compassionate he is. It was really touching. I had so many feels for Lyre in this one. He is such a curious individual. There is so much more underneath the surface. 

Would I Recommend It

Yes. If you are a fan of the series then you MUST read this!! It not only adds to the story, but adds to the character development. It's awesome. I would love to read more novellas like this one about some of the other characters.

Synopsis

OMG, I need more! This series is blowing my mind! I just finished this book and I am already having withdrawals. I NEED this series. I NEED more. This series is so addicting! So many feels!

What I liked

The progression of this series is fantastic! It's been a while since I've read a series with such incredible story telling. The details from each book are woven so beautifully to create a story so complex and energizing. I am in such awe of the writing. Annette Marie is such a masterful storyteller. I am a fan for life!

This book made me have so many emotions! I was happy, devastated, anxious...just all over the emotional spectrum. 

The characters in this series have grown so much. It has been a while since I have read a series with a group of characters that have overtaken my heart. I love the characters in this series so much. I feel so close to them because Annette Marie writes them so vividly. The way that each character evolves and how the relationships grow is magical. 

This series sucks you in. You feel so connected to this world and all of the characters. There is suspense that makes you lose your mind with wanting to know what happens next. I love the pacing in the book and in the series. 

What I didn't like

Once in a while a book or series comes along that is truly flawless, and this is one of those books/series. There are no plot holes, no filler, no horribly annoying characters to hate. Everything in this book and in this series is necessary and tells an epic story. There is nothing to dislike.

Would I Recommend It

OMG, YES!! This series just gets better and better! This book with blow you away and make you crave an ending. I feel like an addict with this series, craving another hit. I finished this series a week ago, and it is still ALL I can think about. Get this series NOW and then feel free to drop me your thanks. Hehe.

I can't believe it is over. OMG, I seriously don't know what to do with myself now. I am having major book hangover. I finished book 5 in the Steel & Stone series days ago and I still can't think about anything else. I hardly have words to describe how awesome this series is. It made me cry, it made me giggle, it just plain made me FEEL things. I haven't been this invested in a series in so long and it feels amazing. Annette Marie is my new favorite author and Steel & Stone is my new favorite series. Each book in this series gets better and better and book 5 was just incredible. This book series has changed me. We all know what it feels like to read a book or a book series and you just feel different inside. You can feel the story lodged in your chest. This is the way that this book and the rest of the series will make you feel.

What I liked

Everything. No, seriously, everything.

One of the absolute best things about this series is how complex the characters are. I love how much they grow as the series goes on. And even better is the way the characters relate to one another and interact with one another. All of the relationships are choreographed so expertly. 

The story is woven so beautifully and masterfully. The way things come together at the end are mind-blowingly perfect. Every single little detail from all of the books keep building up and they converge at the end harmoniously. The way that things play out really is perfect. 

I really liked all of the new characters in this book. I loved seeing all of the draconians surviving together. I really loved how they embraced Piper (for the most part) and how her relationship with all of them grows. 

What I didn't like

This book and this series as a whole is flawless. Truly flawless. There wasn't a single thing that I disliked about this book or the series. 

There were a couple of things that I dwelt upon at the end, but I by no means disliked the book for not knowing the answers. It was more of a curiosity. ---SPOILER AHEAD--- I was curious about whether or not Piper and Ash could have children together since they are both "dragons" in a sense. Tenryu and Shenryu are siblings, so the draconians and the Overworld water dragons are related then, right? The only other thing that I was super curious about is which Underworld caste was in Piper's ancestry. We found out that her Overworld caste was the more powerful daemon blood in her, but we never found out her Underworld caste ancestry. I was curious if that could have played a role somewhere in one aspect of the story or another.

Would I Recommend It

YES, by all the glorious gods across every spectrum, you HAVE to read this series and this book!! This series and this book are brilliant. Enough said.
