Oh my stars, ya'll! This book! I swear every book from this author gets better and better every single time. Her books surpass awesome and head right for stellar.
Meghan Quinn has the best contemporary storytelling, hands down! She truly has a gift and I am so glad that I get to reap the rewards of that gift with every book she releases. Her writing style is top-notch in every way. I feel such a sense of completeness when I jump into her books. Like she is writing that story, especially for me. The flow is always perfect and the content is always great. I love the plot of this story and how the story was mapped out. The world-building was fantastic. I felt so immersed in both the sports world and the college world. I absolutely love the humor that Quinn adds to her stories. I am almost guaranteed to literally laugh out loud while reading her books and this one was no exception.
These characters won me over straight away. The prologue was a pretty pivotal scene for the male main character, Silas, and it really gripped me. It was visceral and very distinctly grabbed my attention. I was pretty much a fangirl for Silas after that scene. He was an easy character to connect with and I felt his pain right along with him. Ollie was also fantastic. She was very determined and ambitious but also carefree in a way that really made her stand out. She felt so genuine and I couldn't help but root for her. I pretty much fell in love with them both from the get-go. All of the secondary characters were also amazing. I love the 'squad goals' feeling that these characters have around one another. I truly loved seeing characters from other characters in this series and even other characters from other Meghan Quinn books. It is such a thrill to experience these characters outside their own books. It adds so much to both this story and to the characters I already know so well.
This was an age-gap romance and it was really executed well. There are some books that I have read in the past with this trope that weren't very convincing but this book doesn't suffer from that at all. Quinn really knows her characters and knows how to present them and their romance in a believable way that really works for the characters and the story as a whole. I love that. For Silas and Ollie, there was chemistry from the very start. From the moment Ollie kisses Silas to save face in front of her nemesis and her ex there was instant chemistry. For this couple in particular, trust was something that really played a huge role in their relationship. I loved how they navigated the dark waters of Silas's trust issues and how it only made them grow closer. I also loved their banter and how Ollie would always poke fun at him for being older than her. Their teasing was so adorable. The way that they grew to care about each other and fall in love was so genuine and I really loved every moment of it.
Overall, this book was a shining beacon in a dark sky. I've said it before, and Meghan Quinn is my unicorn author, making me believe in magic. She always writes high-quality stories that not only stand out for their gorgeous writing but their unique and incomparable content as well. Her books aren't rehashes of popular tropes. She always finds a way to make her stories stand out with her individual and extraordinary touches. Yeah, I'm a fangirl for Meghan Quinn but once you pick up one of her books, one of her experiences, then you will see what all the fuss is about and you will be too. If you haven't tried one of Quinn's books before then I would start with one of her sports romances. They are my favorites. The Brentwood Boys series is a good starting place for new readers.
