When I picked up this book I wasn't expecting it to hit me so hard in the feels. I was a sobbing mess during so many parts of this book that it's not even funny and I don't regret a single moment.
There is a reason why Meghan Quinn is a top go-to author for me: she knows her craft!
I am impressed with every single book that she releases without fail regardless of subgenre. Small-town romance? Boom! She's got you covered. Sports romance? Boom! She's got your fix. What really gets me every time, no matter the story, is her writing style. She has this effortless casual style that is doused with humor and awkward situations that has me hooked every single time. I love that her writing style is authentic and unique to only her. I never feel like I am reading a cardboard cutout copy of a romance novel. The plot of this book was mapped out beautifully. It really packed a punch in the emotional department. From point A to point B was such an incredible journey. I also loved the world-building in this book. It is one of the most atmospheric books that I have read in a long while. I felt so immersed in this small town.
The characters in this book are absolutely everything. I'm telling you that you are going to fall in love with these characters. This small funky town packs a wallop. There are so many odd and quirky characters that my heart was beating overtime. I just love quirky characters and this book has them in spades. And Quinn knows how to write the perfect quirky characters. Having so many of them in one book was such a joy. The main characters were so relatable and authentic. I could put myself in their shoes with ease. Both main characters experienced a lot of character growth as well. I loved how all the secondary characters in this book really pulled everything together and made this book something very special. They added so much depth and substance to the story.
This was a hardcore slow-burn romance. And when I say hardcore I mean it! I love slow-burn romances as a general rule but this one had me chomping at the bits. That's not to say that the love story wasn't great because it definitely was. This love story was heartfelt and the emotions ran high. I loved how the main characters gradually found their way together after spending a lot of time with one another. I loved how Sawyer spent time with Fallon's grandfather and formed a bond with him. Sawyer was quite the romantic and it came out in everything that he did in the book.
Overall, this was another win from Meghan Quinn! The way that she can take an idea and transform it into something so phenomenal is mind-boggling. If you are a fan of heartfelt stories with plenty of humor and interesting characters then you'll want this book on your TBR! I can't wait for the next book from this author!
